Much loved but cancelled Netflix show has just been uncancelled

Rory Cashin

Warrior Nun

The show has received a score of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Launching on Netflix in July 2020, Warrior Nun was an immediate hit with viewers, as the show told the story of Ava (Alba Bapista), an orphaned teen who one day wakes up in a morgue, and discovers she now possesses superpowers as the chosen Halo Bearer for a secret sect of demon-hunting nuns.

Then, in December 2022, one month after the second season debuted on the streaming service, Netflix announced that it would not be moving forward with a third season of Warrior Nun.

Following that announcement, there was a concerted campaign to get the show back, with the hashtag #SaveWarriorNun trending for weeks after the show’s cancellation.

And it all paid off, as series creator Simon Barry took to Twitter to announce the good news: “Today I’m happy to officially report that because of your combined voices, passion, and amazing efforts – Warrior Nun will return and is going to be more EPIC than you could imagine. More details to come! SOON! Thank you!!”

It is currently unclear if the show will be returning to Netflix or if a competing streaming service has picked it up for the new season, but with the previous season scoring 100% on Rotten Tomatoes, you should expect something pretty special from the new episodes:

Decider – “Warrior Nun is the rare pulpy fantasy show that knows when to lean into its silly side and when to slow down and get serious. That makes it incredibly addictive for a specific kind of action fan.”

The A.V. Club – “The actors have such good chemistry that their various pairings work, and the smartly choreographed fight scenes are well-placed.”

Ready Steady Cut – “The blend of influences and tones continues to work well, keeping Warrior Nun feeling unique among the overstuffed thumbnails of Netflix’s young-adult content.”

The first two seasons of Warrior Nun are available to watch on Netflix right now, with the third season arriving … at some time … on some platform.
