It has already won awards. Add it to your list.

In the aftermath of the Sandy Hook Massacrethat took the lives of 26 children in Newtown, Connecticut, Father Bob Weiss was tasked with burying eight of those children.

In the throes of profound PTSD, he received a letter from an Irish priest, Father Basil O’Sullivan, that was serving in Dunblane, Scotland.

As the majority of us will remember, Dunblane had to endure a similarly horrific tragedy in in 1996 when 16 school children were gunned down at the hands of an unhinged lone gunman.

In the ensuing months, the two priests forged a bond across the Atlantic through a series of letters which shared their experiences of trauma and recovery.

In Lessons from a School Shooting: Notes from Dunblane, viewers get to witness an incredibly emotional story that follow the interactions between two men that had to console two communities that were absolutely heartbroken and in the throes of despair.

Aside from this, the filmmaker also illustrates the UK’s proactive stance on gun reform since Dunblane and how no similar legislation has taken place in America.

Kim A. Snyder’s documentary has already won an award at the Tribeca Film Festival and you can watch it for yourself on Netflix when it’s released on September 28th.
