Netflix’s newest thriller appears to be about … killer rain?

Brilliant? Or bonkers? Or likely to be a bit of both?

You don’t have to look very far to find a fantastic thriller series on Netflix, but they’ve also been known to attempt to push the envelope in terms of what you might consider to be traditional stories.

Just think of The OA or Dark or Gypsy, all very original and unsettling because we have no real idea what might happen next.

Which takes us nicely to The Rain, a new Netflix thriller series that genuinely appears to be about scary, murderous rain.

The Scandanavian series deals with a a brutal virus wipes out most of the population, two young brothers embark on a perilous search for safety.

As they take on the tough journey, hoping to find a place where they can live their lives, they meet with other young people who have managed to survive like themselves.

Why did they survive? Can any of the other survivors really be trusted? And why has the rain turned evil?

We’ll find out (maybe) when The Rain premieres on Netflix later this Spring.

Also, on a sidenote, if you’re thinking to yourself “Huh, haven’t I heard the premise of evil rain somewhere before…?”, then the answer is yes.

It was the premise to Chubby Rain, the fake film-within-a-film at the centre of the kind of brilliant, but totally under-seen Eddie Murphy/Steve Martin comedy Bowfinger.
