A new documentary about Bruce Springsteen will be released in cinemas

Springsteen documentary

Great news for fans of The Boss.

There’s absolutely no such thing as too much Bruce Springsteen and right now, fans must be feeling as euphoric as they did when they first heard ‘Dancing in the Dark’ for the very first time.

Why?

Well, we’ve got a new film that’s inspired by The Boss’ lyrics, Blinded By the Light, in cinemas right now – you can read our review here – and if that’s not enough, Springsteen on Broadway is an excellent watch on Netflix too.

Oh yeah, there’s also the small matter of his recent album, Western Stars, to lift the mood also.

If all of these weren’t enough, fans of The Boss will be delighted to know that Warner Bros. Pictures are releasing a documentary film about Western Stars, worldwide, on the big screen.

The documentary will see Springsteen making his directorial debut alongside his longtime collaborator, Thom Zimny.

Springsteen and Zimny have worked together on several projects over the years, including the documentary The Promise: The Making of Darkness on the Edge of Town, and the Tony Award-winning Springsteen on Broadway, which Zimny directed.

Western Stars will make its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival in September, and it’s slated for release this autumn.

Much like the album itself, the documentary will touch on themes of love and loss, loneliness and family and the inexorable passage of time,.

We’re told that “the documentary film evokes the American West—both the mythic and the hardscrabble—weaving archival footage and Springsteen’s personal narration with song to tell the story of Western Stars. It offers fans the world over their only opportunity to see Springsteen perform all 13 songs on the album, backed up by a band and a full orchestra, under the cathedral ceiling of his historic nearly 100-year-old barn.”

Speaking about the documentary, Chairman of Warner Bros. Pictures, Toby Emmerich, has said that: “Bruce lives in the super rarified air of artists who have blazed new and important trails deep into their careers. With ‘Western Stars,’ Bruce is pivoting yet again, taking us with him on an emotional and introspective cinematic journey, looking back and looking ahead. As one of his many fans for over 40 years, I couldn’t be happier to be a rider on this train with Bruce and Thom.”

At present, no Irish release date has been announced but we’re certain that it will make its way over here.

In the meantime, we recommend everyone that loves The Boss to check out Blinded By the Light because it’s fantastic.

See, even Springsteen approves of our message.
