The new Paranormal Activity and 5 more big trailers you might have missed this week

All the best new TV and movie trailers from the week gone by…

Another week gone by, another batch of trailers for movie fans to salivate over.

From the latest in a long-running horror franchise to an acclaimed indie drama to not one, but TWO new musicals, we’ve compiled the best teasers of the past seven days.

So let’s get to it…

Paranormal Activity: Next of Kin

This reboot of the long-running horror franchise comes from the writer of Happy Death Day and the director of Underwater and takes its found footage supernatural stylings into Amish Country.

It’s out in the States on 29 October, though an Irish release date has not been set.

Cyrano

Game of Thrones’ Peter Dinklage plays Cyrano de Bergerac, a brash, strong-willed but self-conscious wordsmith with a crush, in this new musical from director Joe Wright (Atonement, The Darkest Hour).

Having already received good reviews on the festival circuit and with an Irish release set for 14 January, could this be – dare I say – an Oscar contender?

We will wait and see.

Tick, Tick…Boom!

Speaking of musicals, Hamilton and In the Heights creator Lin-Manuel Miranda makes his directorial debut adapting Rent creator Jonathan Larson’s semi-autographical musical for Netflix.

Starring Andrew Garfield, as well as High School Musical alum Vanessa Hudgens – so you know it’s got bona fides – Tick, Tick… Boom sings and dances its way onto the streaming service on 19 November.

Operation Mincemeat

Clip via Warner Bros. UK & Ireland

Colin Firth and Matthew Macfadyen lead an impressive cast of British character actors in this old-school war drama about two intelligence officers during WWII who concoct a plan using a corpse and false papers to embarrass Hitler.

Seemingly destined to be a dad movie, it will be out in Ireland on 7 January.

Red Rocket

This US indie centres on a washed-up porn star (played by Scary Movie franchise star Simon Rex) who returns to his small Texas hometown, not that anyone really wants him back.

While the premise and the incredible NSYNC needle drop in the trailer suggest Red Rocket will have tons of comedy, given its writer-director Sean Baker’s previous work like The Florida Project, you can expect some hard-hitting drama too.

Currently sitting on a whopping 94% score on Rotten Tomatoes, it does not have an Irish release date as of yet.

The Afterparty

Clip via Apple TV

From the makers of the 21 Jump Street reboot and The Lego Movie comes this Apple TV+ murder-mystery comedy series with a killer (pun intended) cast of funny people.

Featuring Tiffany Haddish as the lead detective, alongside Ben Schwartz, Dave Franco, Ike Barinholtz, Ilana Glazer, Jamie Demetriou, John Early and Sam Richardson, The Afterparty premieres in January 2022.
