The new psychological-thriller starring Julia Roberts looks set to be your next TV addiction

Paul Moore

Homecoming

This looks excellent.

With dramas like Sharp Objects, Succession and The Terror providing some of the standout TV shows of the year, it’s clear that audiences are absolutely addicted to macabre mysteries and on this note, Amazon Prime are making a serious statement of intent with their upcoming slate.

Writer/producer of The Sopranos and Mad Men, Matthew Weiner, is back with  The Romanoffs – more about that here – and the streaming giant are about to unleash another massive show that features one of the biggest stars in the world, Julia Roberts.

The Oscar-winning actress is the main draw in the mind-bending psychological thriller, Homecoming, but fans of Mr Robot will be delighted to know that the show is directed by Sam Esmail.

With regards to the plot, Heidi Bergman (Julia Roberts) is a caseworker at Homecoming, a Geist Group facility helping soldiers transition to civilian life. Years later she has started a new life, living with her mother and working as a waitress, when a Department of Defense auditor questions why she left the Homecoming facility. Heidi quickly realises that there’s a whole other story behind the story she’s been telling herself.

Homecoming is released on Prime Video on 2 November.
