Nicola Coughlan to star in new Netflix series

Rudi Kinsella

Nicola Coughlan

The Derry Girls star is going from strength to strength.

As we’re sure you’re aware, the first season of Derry Girls is now on Netflix for you to enjoy.

And if you are a fan of the show, then you definitely know who all about Nicola Coughlan, who plays the incredible, if not a little bit apprehensive, Clare Devlin.

And from her work on the show, she has caught the eye of production agency Shondaland (founded by Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy), and it has just been announced that she’s starring in their new Netflix series Bridgerton.

Based on Julia Quinn’s best-selling series of novels, Bridgerton, is set in the sexy, lavish and competitive world of Regency London high society. We’re sure our favourite Derry Girl will fit right in.

The description of Coughlan’s character states that she is: “A vastly intelligent girl with a sharp wit and kind heart, Penelope would prefer to quietly sway near the perimeter of any ballroom rather than take center stage.  She’s been born into a family who will never truly understand her–as if dealing with the cutthroat, mean girls of 1813 Regency London weren’t enough.”

We can’t wait to see what she does with the character.

There is no exact date for when Bridgerton will be on our screens, all we know so far is that it will premiere in 2020. We’re counting down the days.
