Okay, yes, The Nun 2 trailer made us jump in fright

Nun 2

Nun for us, thanks, we’re 2 scared.

We didn’t think we’d be hyper for The Nun 2, but here we are. The first Nun movie, released in 2018, was quite bad. It limped up with just 25% on Rotten Tomatoes, but it was also a massive box office success – on a $22 million budget, it banked almost $366 million worldwide – so a sequel was inevitable.

But good horror sequels have arrived from bad first movies. Annabelle: Creation was much better than Annabelle, and Ouija: Origin of Evil was muuuuuuuch better than the first Ouija movie.

And so now here we are, with the ninth movie within The Conjuring Universe, and judging from the first look at the new sequel, we could be in for quite the treat. You can watch the adults-only trailer below, or on YouTube right here.

That bit with the hole in the wall? Yeah, we properly jumped at that. The Nun 2’s official synopsis tells us that we’ve moved on from 1952 Romania to 1956 France: “A priest is murdered. An evil is spreading. The sequel to the worldwide smash hit follows Sister Irene as she once again comes face-to-face with Valak, the demon nun.”

Taissa Farmiga returns as Sister Irene, this time joined by new cast members Storm Reid (Missing) and Anna Popplewell (The Chronicles of Narnia). The movie is directed by the guy behind the decently spooky The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It, and a script from the writers behind the brilliantly bonkers M3GAN and Malignant.

The Nun 2 arrives in cinemas in Ireland and the UK on Wednesday 6 September.
