OFFICIAL: Designated Survivor has been saved and it’s getting a third season on Netflix

Designated Survivor Season 3

Great news for fans.

Throughout the course of 24, nothing could stop Jack Bauer from saving the world. Really, not even a nuclear bomb, deadly virus or countless henchman/moles/traitors could stop Jack.

Well, it appears that the same can be said for Kiefer Sutherland’s latest hit show, Designated Survivor.

After recently being cancelled, Entertainment One has finalised a deal with Netflix for a 10-episode Season 3 order which will become a global Netflix original.

Neal Baer will be the new showrunner for the political thriller – he’s the series’ fifth showrunner since its beginning – and production is set to begin later this year ahead of a 2019 release.

We’re delighted to say that core cast of the series, including Sutherland, Kal Penn, Adan Canto and Italia Ricci, are all set to return. Maggie Q (Die Hard 4.0) is also in talks to join them.

With regards to the plot for Season 3, Deadline have reported that President Kirkman (Sutherland) will find himself in new political terrain, campaigning.

They state: “What does it take to make a leader? What price will he be willing to pay? This season will explore today’s world of campaigning, smear tactics, debates, campaign finance and “fake news”. Democracy, as we know it, will hang in the balance.”

We can’t wait.
