One of the best shows of the year is finally kicking off on Irish TV tonight

Rory Cashin

When it was released in the States a few months back, it was all anybody was talking about.

Ryan Murphy (American Horror Story, American Crime Story) amassed a hugely impressive cast for his new show, but it was the story they were telling that got everyone interested.

In the decades of Hollywood rivalries, few ever compared to the great hate between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford, and with Feud, we get to see what happened on the set of the one and only movie they ever made together.

Having both agreed to work on psychological horror What Ever Happened To Baby Jane?, we watch first hand as Davis (Susan Sarandon) and Crawford (Jessica Lange) play out their own game of psychological warfare on each other.

The show also features Alfred Molina, Catherina Zeta-Jones, Stanley Tucci and Kathy Bates, but really this is about watching Davis and Crawford constantly attempt to out-do each other, and it is an absolute masterclass in acting from the two female leads.

Both Sarandon and Lange were considered to be definite wins at the Golden Globes this year, and while they were nominated, they unfortunately lost out to the (absolutely deserving) Nicole Kidman for her role in Big Little Lies.

A second season of Feud has already been announced, focusing on the fallout of the marriage of Charles and Diana, but Murphy has yet to announce who has been cast in those leading roles.

The first episode of the eight-part mini-series kicks off on RTE One tonight at 11.15pm.
