One of the best action movies of the decade will air on TV tonight (Saturday July 5).
Prey (2022) is a prequel to the iconic Predator series.
Directed by Dan Trachtenberg (10 Cloverfield Lane), the film follows a young woman named Naru, a highly skilled warrior played by Amber Midthunder (Novacaine).
The films synopsis reads: “Set in the Comanche Nation 300 years ago,’Prey’ is the story of a young woman, Naru, a fierce and highly skilled warrior.
“She has been raised in the shadow of some of the most legendary hunters who roam the Great Plains, so when danger threatens her camp, she sets out to protect her people. The prey she stalks and ultimately confronts turns out to be a highly evolved alien predator with a technically advanced arsenal, resulting in a vicious and terrifying showdown between the two adversaries.”
Attempting a prequel to one of the most beloved sci-fi/horror series in cinema is a tall order, however critics and fans alike all agree that Trachtenberg’s attempt sticks the landing.
It currently has a critics’ score of 94% on Rotten Tomatoes, which you can read some of below:
CGMagazine: “Prey is a bloody and badass return to form for the Predator franchise.”
Film Inquiry: “Prey offers an excellent example of less being more, especially in a series long known for its over-the-top dialogue and gory violence.”
MSB Reviews: “Prey lives up to high expectations, being the first movie in the Predator saga to come close to or even surpass the original. Amber Midthunder delivers one of the best performances of her career.”
Prey will be aired on Film4 tonight at 9 pm.
