“When I’m in England, I’m Irish. When I’m in Ireland, I’m from Dublin. When I’m in Dublin, I’m from Crumlin.”
If ever a few words encapsulated the love that Phil Lynott felt for his hometown, it was those and in RTÉ’s latest documentary on the iconic Thin Lizzy singer, fans got to see a very different side of the musician as he embarked on his solo career.
Phil Lynott – Scéalta Ón Old Town told the story of how the iconic video for Old Town came to be made and right from the moment when we heard the story of Lynott’s arrival at the Ha’Penny Bridge, fans were gripped.
Truth be told, the ‘little brown bag’ that he needed to help him against the harsh weather conditions during the shoot was a sad indication of what’s to come for the beloved singer but the documentary offered a wonderful glimpse at the rise of Thin Lizzy and how Lynott genuinely ruled over Dublin for a brief period.
Those scenes of him strolling down Grafton Street and flirting with every woman that he sees completely embodied the charisma, talent, and magnetic appeal of the iconic singer.
Aside from this, the revelation from Lynott’s mother, Philomena, that she playfully kicks the urn of her son every day for putting her through a nightmare of drugs was heartbreaking and oddly cathartic.
He may be gone, but Phil Lynott’s memory will live forever.
Phil Lynott – Scéalta Ón Old Town is proof of this and fans absolutely loved it.
