People are absolutely raving about 13th, the superb new documentary on Netflix

Paul Moore

It has been described as “essential viewing”.

A few days ago, we urged you all to watch Ava DuVernay’s new film, 13th, as it made its debut on Netflix.

The documentary revolves around the 13th Amendment of the US Constitution, which reads “Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States.”

The documentary has been tipped to win an Oscar and it focuses on how this amendment has been used to subjugate the masses and propagate racial inequality in America.

Du Vernay’s work has already proven to be a massive success with critics – it currently has a 97% rating on Rotten Tomatoes – but audiences have also been wowed by its unflinching and powerful narrative.
