Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Phantom Thread.

Plot’s it all about?: Having been cloaked in an odd amount of mystery for the longest time – the official title wasn’t even announced until the trailer debuted – we finally have our first look at what Daniel Day-Lewis is reported to have said to be his final film before heading off into retirement.

He is reuniting with the writer and director of There Will Be Blood, for which he won one of his three Best Actor Oscars (along with Lincoln and My Left Foot, not to mention the two other nominations, for Gangs Of New York and In The Name Of The Father). One look at the trailer, and the fact that it will be his last performance, and he looks like a sure-thing for a 4th Oscar, which will make him the winner of more acting awards than any other actor, and joint biggest winner overall, alongside Katharine Hepburn.

The movie itself is set in the fashion world of 1950s London, involving a dress-maker (Day-Lewis) who is commissioned to design for members of high society and the royal family. He has a competitive streak with his own designer sister (Manville), and he begins to feel the order and perfection of his life begin to slip away as he falls more and more in love with a new muse (Rutherford).

Considering writer/director Paul Thomas Anderson also delivered the likes of Boogie Nights, The Master, Magnolia and Inherent Vice, we can expect peerless performances and a perfectionist eye for period fashion. Plus, considering how underwraps the whole project was kept, we fully anticipate a surprise or two along the way.

Oh, and Oscars. All of the Oscars. If this doesn’t win the Oscar for Best Costume Design, we’ll eat our 1950s style hat.

Starring: Daniel Day-Lewis, Lesley Manville, Camilla Rutherford and Vicky Krieps.

Director: Paul Thomas Anderson

Irish release date: 2 February 2018
