Pic: Did anyone notice the pretty important problem with Nidge’s tax disc on Love/Hate last night? (Spoiler alert)

So Detective Mick didn’t need to eat it after all…

So Detective Mick didn’t need to eat it after all…

One of the many, many standout scenes from the amazing Love/Hate Season 5 finale last night was the confrontation between Nidge and Detective Mick after Mick had pulled him over on the side of the road.

Looking for a valid reason to bring Nidge in, Mick suggested that a failure to display the tax disc on Nidge’s BMW jeep was an arrestable offence and when Nidge produced it from the windscreen, he subsequently chewed it up and spat it out and looked so badass while doing so that it would have impressed Clint Eastwood in his prime.

Cool though it was, it was actually completely unnecessary as a few eagle-eyed spotters noticed that the tax disc that Nidge had handed over was dated 2012, making it two years out of date.

As JOE reader David Sheehan subsequently pointed out, however, while the tax disc was printed in 2012, it was actually dated 09-13, meaning it was still out of date but only by a year or so rather than two years.

Granted, Mick punishing Nidge with a fine and a couple of penalty points might not have been as dramatic as the bout of fisticuffs that did take place, but it might have prevented the very messy day that followed for Nidgey not long afterwards.

Hat-tip to Eoin Curran for sending this one our way
