Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson took to social media to announce the casting.

Former Bond and Irish actor Pierce Brosnan has been cast in the long-awaited DC film Black Adam starring Dwayne Johnson.

For those who don’t know, Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian who possesses the same powers as the lead character in 2019’s charming comic book film Shazam.

While typically Black Adam is a supervillain, the upcoming film is said to be inspired by the Justice Society of America comic, where Adam is more of an anti-hero who joins and serves in the superhero team.

Brosnan will be playing Doctor Fate, who in the comics was a superhero with sorcerer powers who helped co-found the Justice Society.

He is joining actors Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man, One Night in Miami), Noah Centineo (To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before) and Marwan Kenzari (The Old Guard), who were already cast in Black Adam.

In a post on Facebook, Johnson wrote: “Such a pleasure to announce the final member of our #JusticeSociety, the bad ass statesman, Mr Pierce Brosnan as the iconic and all knowing, Dr Fate.

“I’m grateful to have such a talented, diverse and hungry cast. The hierarchy of power in the DC Universe is about to change…”

The wrestler turned Hollywood leading man also revealed that production on Black Adam kicks off in three weeks, with the film directed by Jaume Collet-Serra (Non-Stop, The Shallows).

As well as Bond, Brosnan is known for his roles in Mrs Doubtfire, Mars Attacks, The Thomas Crown Affair and the Mamma Mia franchise.
