Our TV movie pick for tonight (Thursday, 12 March) is Pig, the stunning 2021 crime drama starring Oscar-winner Nicolas Cage (The Surfer).
The actor stars in the film as Rob, a former chef living a reclusive existence deep in the Oregon wilderness.
He supports himself by foraging for truffles with the help of his beloved pig.
One night, however, Rob is attacked by assailants who steal the animal.
As such, the recluse returns to the city he once called home in an effort to get the pig back.
What begins as essentially John Wick but with a pig instead of a dog quickly evolves into a haunting but beautiful meditation on love, grief and regrets, as we learn more about Rob's past as he embarks on this unpredictable odyssey to retrieve the animal.
The movie also sees Cage give one of his very best performances as an intense, quiet man who you never doubt has an incredible well of emotions lurking just beneath his tough exterior.
If you don't believe us, Pig holds a near-perfect 97% Rotten Tomatoes score, making it Cage's highest-rated film on the website.
The movie is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 1.55am. It's also currently streaming on Netflix.
