The reshoots are happening with the movie due for release in less than two months

Last week, it was confirmed that Kevin Spacey had been re-cast in a movie that was due to be released in just a few weeks.

The actor had finished filming for the movie All the Money in the World, which was due to be released on December 22 in the States. However, the producers decided to re-cast the role and begin filming with a new actor immediately.

Academy Award-winner Christopher Plummer has been cast to play Spacey’s role of J. Paul Getty, whose grandson was infamously kidnapped in 1973.

Sony Pictures were informed of the decision to re-cast and re-shoot yesterday by director Ridley Scott, with the filming of the new scenes starting immediately.

Michelle Williams and Mark Wahlberg are also starring in the film and were reportedly a part of a ‘unified front’ in their agreement to have Spacey’s role re-shot.

Plummer spoke to Vanity Fair at the premiere of his new movie The Man Who Invented Christmas, when he was asked about the recasting:

“I think it’s very sad what happened to him. Kevin is such a talented and a terrifically gifted actor, and it’s so sad. It’s such a shame. That’s all I can say, because that’s it.”

“It’s really not replacing him [Spacey]—it’s starting all over again,” he added. “I’m very saddened by what happened to Kevin, but what can I do? I’ve got a role. I admire Ridley Scott and I’m thrilled to be making a movie for him. And so I thought, that was it.”

“Ages ago I was in contention for [the role], way back. So I was familiar with it, and then Ridley came to me and I agreed. I wanted to work with him. He’s very good. I loved the script. The script is wonderful.”

All The Money In The World will be released in cinemas in the UK and Ireland on Friday 5 January 2018.
