After nearly 20 years, it is finally almost here...
For one of the biggest movies of the year, and for one of the most-anticipated sequels maybe of all time, we actually know very, very little about The Matrix 4.
In fact, we don't even know for sure that is what it will be called (it isn't, because the sequels weren't numerically titled), but that just goes to show you how little we know about it!
What we do know is that Lana Wachowski, the co-director and co-writer of the original trilogy, is behind this one, while Keanu Reeves and Carrie-Anne Moss are both returning to their iconic roles of Neo and Trinity, respectively.
We also know that the supporting cast is massively impressive, including Christina Ricci, Jonathan Groff, Priyanka Chopra Jones, Neil Patrick Harris, and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Abdul-Mateen II recently during the press rounds for his new horror movie, Candyman.
You can check out our interview with him and his co-star Teyonnah Parris in full right here:
Between them, the Candyman stars have some massively impressive projects on their upcoming CV, including The Marvels (aka Captain America 2), Aquaman 2, and Furious (aka the Mad Max: Fury Road prequel), but considering how soon The Matrix 4 is due to arrive, and how very little the world seems to know about it, we had to ask him about that one!
While he obviously still can't go into too much details, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II did reveal that he has seen some of it, and it was enough to get him very enthused for the rest of the world to see it, too:
"Yeah, I'm very excited for that project. I forget about that project sometimes. Not because its not amazing. It is amazing.
"Right, there's a whole lot of history and movies and other things coming out. But I did get a little glimpse at something that's really cool. I got a glimpse at something that is really f**king cool. Yeah, I can't wait for everybody to see the thing that I saw.
"It's just cool, that is as much as I can say!"
That is enough for us! The Matrix 4 (or whatever it ends up being called) is currently set to arrive in Irish cinemas on Wednesday, 22 December this year.
Candyman is released in Irish cinemas on Friday, 27 August.

The film is one of 2026’s most anticipated. Rising Irish star Aoife Hinds has told JOE that it “felt like a dream” working on the upcoming Tom Cruise movie Digger. Hinds is best known for her performances in the shows Derry Girls, Dune: Prophecy, Normal People, as well as the recent Irish hit movie Saipan. […]
The show comes from Bad Sisters’ Sharon Horgan. BBC sitcom Amandaland, which was hailed as “one of the funniest shows in years” by viewers, has just been added to Netflix. A spin-off to the beloved series Motherland, it sees Lucy Punch reprise her role as Amanda – the acerbic, self-centred and extremely image-conscious “alpha mum”. […]
It has been called ‘exceptionally creepy’ and ‘truly unsettling’. The Lodge, one of the scariest movies of recent years, is airing on TV tonight (Friday, 13 March). The psychological horror thriller stars Riley Keough (Daisy Jones & the Six) as Grace, a woman with a very troubled past. Newly engaged, she goes to stay with […]
