The movie features Pierce Brosnan, Brendan Gleeson, and Aisling Bea.
Ever since it blew us all away when it was performed during the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, the popularity or cultural impact of Riverdance continued to be felt even after all of these years.
And that continues on now with Riverdance: The Animated Adventure, a brand new movie featuring voice work from some of the biggest Irish stars working today.
The movie follows Keegan (Sam Hardy) and Moya (Hannah Herman Cortes), a boy and girl who begin a journey into the mythical world of the legendary Megaloceros Gigantues, who are about to teach them how to appreciate Riverdance as a celebration of life.
The movie also features voice work from Pauline McLynn (Father Ted), Jermaine Fowler (Coming 2 America), Lilly Singh (Bad Moms), Pierce Brosnan (Goldeneye), Brendan Gleeson (The Guard), and Aisling Bea (Living With Yourself).
Dave Rosenbaum, the director of the movie, had this to say about the upcoming release: "This transcendent entertainment is what makes Riverdance a unique and exciting source for an animated feature. Our film celebrates the power of music and dance in new, unexpected ways. It illustrates the richness of Ireland’s history, nature and people. And it brings to the screen an original world full of comedy and drama, drawn from our imagination."
Additionally, Moya Doherty, co-producer of the movie, stated: "This beautiful story brings Riverdance into a new and exciting phase, one which will allow families to enjoy the spectacle together. It reinforces the deep connection of Riverdance to Irish culture both at home and across the globe, and one which introduces Riverdance to a new, young audience many of whom will be experiencing Riverdance for the first time."
Riverdance: The Animated Adventure will be available to stream on NOW from Friday, 28 May.
