Amazon said Road House has been watched by 50 million viewers
Amazon has said Road House has become its most watched original film ever.
According to the company, the remake of the 1989 film of the same name is Amazon’s biggest global movie launch ever.
Amazon said the film, which stars Jake Gyllenhaal, Daniela Melchior and Conor McGregor, had been watched by 50 million viewers since it was March 21.
But Amazon has not explained how it reached that viewing figure, so it is not clear whether someone who watched just a minute of the film would count as one viewer, according to the Hollywood Reporter.
Jennifer Salke, head of Amazon MGM Studios, said: “The groundbreaking, successful debut of Road House is a testament to the hard work and commitment from the entire Road House filmmaking team and the film’s cast led by the phenomenal Jake Gyllenhaal.
“It’s great to see the film taking off with both fans of the iconic original as well as a huge turnout from new audiences.”
Road House saw McGregor make his acting debut as Knox, a goon-for-hire who goes head to head with Gyllenhaal’s character.
Speaking about his experience in front of the camera, he told JOE that he found acting much more difficult than fighting in the Octagon.
He said: “Acting [is harder]. Time, time, time consumption, and it’s not just action and fighting and stunts, it’s also remembering the line and you have to time things correctly, you’re engaging with another person.
“It’s just a difficult game, a lot more difficult than I gave it credit for.”
It turns out that the Irishman could have made his acting debut much earlier though, as McGregor revealed he had previously signed up to do a season of hit show Vikings.
