A state broadcaster is telling Russians to stockpile food and water in preparation for war as the conflict in Syria escalates.

America, France and the UK are planning a response to a suspected chemical weapons attack by the Syrian government, which is backed by Russia, against its own civilians.

Incendiary tweets by President Trump warned “Get ready Russia, because they will be coming, nice and new and ‘smart!'”

A presenter on state-run broadcaster Vesti 24, stood in front of a mushroom cloud, warned viewers to stock up on “fewer sweets and more water.”

He said Russians should gather rice, oatmeal and sugar – “for those who succumb to panic and decide to spend all their savings.”

The broadcast aired in response to growing tensions between Washington and Moscow over the alleged chemical weapons attack in the Syrian town of Douma.

According to pro-opposition rescue group the White Helmets the attack killed dozens, with the World Health Organization saying that 500 people went to Syrian health facilities with “signs and symptoms consistent with exposure to toxic chemicals.”
