The original cast of the movie are returning for the Netflix series.
Netflix has released a first teaser for Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, a series reboot of the cult classic movie Scott Pilgrim vs. the World.
Adapted from the graphic novel series Scott Pilgrim by Bryan Lee O’Malley, the 2010 action comedy film was directed by Edgar Wright (Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) and saw Michael Cera play the title character, a slacker musician who falls for Ramona Flowers (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), an enigmatic woman he meets at a party.
However, Scott soon learns that in order to date Ramona, he will have to defeat her seven evil exes (including Chris Evans and Jason Schwartzman). This is all the while he and his band Sex Bob-Omb compete in a battle of the bands competition to score a record deal.
Though it was not a hit at the box office upon release in 2010, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World received rave reviews – with its ensemble cast of soon-to-be A-listers, its witty screenplay and its dazzling visuals paying homage to comic books and video games eventually attracting a devoted fan base.
This has led to Netflix greenlighting an animated series reboot of the novels and movie, which will see the entire cast of the 2010 action comedy back to voice their characters from the film.
Alongside Cera, Evans, Schwartzman and Winstead, this includes Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza, Brie Larson and Kieran Culkin.
Executive produced by Wright, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off will premiere on Netflix on 17 November. You can check out its teaser right here.
Earlier this week, meanwhile, JOE covered the trailers for Bradley Cooper’s Maestro and the final season of Netflix’s Top Boy in separate articles.
