A showrunner spills some beans about the new production.

A show runner on the Netflix hit television show, 13 Reasons Why, has teased the prospect of the second season focusing somewhat around Hannah Baker still claiming “there’s a bit more of Hannah’s story to tell.”

Although the first season of 13 Reasons Why looked to have concluded Hannah’s story after Clay had listened to and passed on the tapes, showrunner Brian Yorkey believes that the narrator from the first series still has a part to play as the story continues.

Speaking to the Netflix For Your Consideration panel, Yorkey answered a question that many people were thinking after hearing the news of a renewal.

“What I can tell you is that certainly, one question I get a lot is, ‘How can there be a season 2 when the story’s over?’ My response is, ‘What story is over?'” said Yorkey.

He added: “Hannah told her version of events, but there are at least 12 kids who have another version of those events that we actually haven’t really heard from yet. So I think there’s quite a bit more of Hannah’s story to tell.”

As well as the possibility of finding out more about Hannah’s story as Yorkey suggests, there are still a few cliffhangers remaining from the season finale such as Alex’s gunshot wound, the whereabouts of Justin, and Tyler’s motive for carrying a huge stash of guns.

Yorkey was unable to state whether that the show would answer these cliffhangers but confirmed that the second season would not rely solely on Hannah’s story.

“I don’t think Hannah told any untruths on her tape. She reclaimed her narrative, which had really been taken from her,” he said.

Yorkey concluded: “I think season 2 will explore how Hannah’s family and friends have been forever altered by her death, just as in real life – examining the grieving process from every angle.’

The second series of 13 Reasons Why will begin production in early June and is expected to hit Netflix in 2018, although an exact date has not been confirmed.
