WATCH: Selma Blair opens up about her Multiple Sclerosis for the first time in powerful interview

Rudi Kinsella

Selma Blair

An incredibly brave interview.

Actress Selma Blair stole the show at the Oscars last week when she walked the red carpet with the assistance of a cane due to the fact that she has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

Blair was diagnosed with MS in August of 2018, but this interview with Good Morning America is the first time she has spoken so openly about her condition.

In the interview, she talks about how her doctor said that within a year, she could have 90% of her abilities back, and how being able to have a conversation is “good enough” for her.

Clearly not having lost her sense of humour, Blair says that “I was a little scared of talking, but even my neurologist said ‘No, this will bring a lot of awareness, because no one has the energy to talk during a flare-up’. But I do, because I love a camera.”

Brilliant. Have a look at a clip from the interview here:

She also spoke about the relief she felt when she was diagnosed, saying: “I cried, I had tears. They weren’t tears of panic, they were tears of knowing I had to give in to a body that had loss of control. And there was some relief in that.”
