Sing Street star would love to see a sequel happen

Paul Moore

This would be incredible.

It is a period of musical war.
A rebel band, striking
from a hidden rehearsal room, have won
their first victory against
the tyrannical  priests at Sing Street.

During the musical battle, Rebel
artists managed to make a secret
track to threaten the priest’s
ultimate weapon – conformity, a state of mind
that has bored the arse off every Irish student.

Pursued by the Church’s
dull priests, Ian Kenny
joins a band, custodian of the
hope that can save
this teenage rebellion and bring
craic to the class…..

As previously reported, Sing Street star Ian Kenny is spreading his acting talent across the galaxy because he’s currently starring in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

In the film, he plays a character called Rebolt, a young intergalactic henchman for a sinister crime syndicate. In an interview with The Big Reviewski, the actor said, “Han (Alden Ehrenreich) and I have a very similar upbringing on Corellia, but we take very different steps to get ahead during a lawless time in the galaxy.”

If ignoring the rules is working, then Kenny should continue to do so because the highly-coveted role in Ron Howard’s latest blockbuster is further proof that the Irishman’s star is on the rise.

As you may know, the director of Rush and Apollo 13 was a late replacement for the original directors on Solo, and Sing Street played a large factor in how Kenny landed the very impressive part. In fact, the tale about his unique ‘audition’ is a great story for anyone that absolutely loves Sing Street – so, that’s everyone then.

“It came absolutely out of nowhere. Phil Lord and Chris Miller – the original directors of Solo – are huge Sing Street fans. Huge, huge Sing Street fans. I was in London at the time meeting for a play and my agent called and said the guys wanted to chat with me and they’re doing the new Solo film. I thought, ‘yeah, this happens all the time!'” he said.

Kenny adds, “they sent a car for me to head to Pinewood for what I thought was an audition and they (Lord and Miller) just grilled me about Sing Street trivia! That’s all they talked about. Genuinely, I had no idea what was going on and then they were like ‘thanks, see ya!’ Then two weeks later, I get a call from my agents and they said that I’m in the film.”

Speaking with JOE’s Eoghan Doherty, the Dubliner admits that he’s still in regular contact with the Sing Street cast and that he’s more than happy to take part in a reunion – on one condition.

“I keep in touch with all the Sing Street lads. Mark has recently moved away – he’s living in Canada to shoot a TV show. Ferdia is an enigma, he doesn’t exist! Jack Reynor is obviously a great Irish actor and he’s in LA at the minute doing a show. The rest of the lads are all still in school and stuff, but I see Mark all the time- we live like three minutes away from each other.”

Kenny would love to see a Sing Street reunion, “as long as they don’t give me the same haircut, I’ll do it! I had to go to college with that haircut for 3 or 4 months and people were giving me a wide berth… and I’m a friendly person!”

We’re delighted to see Kenny moving from Sing Street to the galaxy that’s far, far away. This being said, we wonder if he’s tempted to ‘Drive the Millennium Falcon Like You Stole It?’
