Sky are showing a very good documentary about Pearl Jam this evening

Paul Moore

Essential for anyone that loves Pearl Jam.

After Eddie Vedder’s recent gig with Glen Hansard at the 3Arena, it’s understandable if fans are craving a little bit more of the iconic singer.

Then again, the only thing that’s better than a solo show is a live performance of Vedder being accompanied by his Pearl Jam bandmates, Mike McCready, Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Matt Cameron on stage.

Well, if you’re looking for a fix of the rock icons, we suggest tuning into Sky Arts at 23:00 tonight because Pearl Jam: Let’s Play Two is being shown.

Unlike other documentaries about the band like Cameron Crowe’s Pearl Jam Twenty, this feature is very different because it’s almost like a hybrid of a sports film, Pearl Jam documentary, and live gig.

Essentially, the documentary chronicles Pearl Jam’s performances at Wrigley Field during the Chicago Cubs’ historic 2016 season.

Fans of the band will know that because Chicago is the hometown of Eddie Vedder, Pearl Jam has forged a special relationship with the city.

From Ten to Lightning Bolt, the documentary shuffles through Pearl Jam’s outstanding back catalogue of originals and covers – spanning the band’s 25-year career.

Through the eyes of renowned director/photographer Danny Clinch and the voice of Pearl Jam, the film showcases the journey of this special relationship and captures the euphoria of sport and music.

In their review, the New York Times said:

“It shares a side of Mr. Vedder his fans will enjoy: the baseball aficionado who fills out a scorecard and treats Wrigley sod as holy ground” while the LA Times said:

“Music and sports are a fascinating blend, as both baseball and rock offer collective community celebration and catharsis, with Wrigley as the host. Mostly though, it’s fun to see rock god Eddie Vedder revelling in his own fandom, the joy he shares with all of Chicago and Cubs fans everywhere.”

Take a look at what’s in store.
