Space Jam 2 has found a new director

Paul Moore

Space Jam 2

We’re blaming the MonStars.

With news that Don Cheadle is joining LeBron James in the sequel to Space Jam, it appeared that everything was flying on the new version of the beloved ’90s animation.

However, Deadline are reporting that an Acme-sized spanner has been thrown in the works because Malcolm D. Lee will be taking over the directing reins from Terence Nance.

Nance’s departure, from the project, according to Deadline, was amicable, and came about because the filmmaker and the studio/producers had different takes on the creative vision for Space Jam 2.

Lee directed the extremely under-appreciated Girls Trip and he has a proven record when it comes to getting big-budget features over the line. He was also at the helm on Night School.

Black Panther director Ryan Coogler is producing the sequel and Warner Bros. has the film slated for release on 16 July, 2021.
