Squid Game creator has one Hollywood megastar in mind for a future season

The Oscar-winning A-lister is apparently a big fan of the show.

Given the surprise breakthrough success of Squid Game’s first season, anticipation is incredibly high in terms of what’s next for the show.

Well, Variety reports that Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator of the South Korean survival drama, shed some light on this very topic during a recent Netflix event where he was asked if any known Hollywood actors would appear in its second season.

In response, Hwang said that this would not happen in its next series as the show will still be set in South Korea but could maybe occur if there were to be a third.

He added that one particularly huge star could be invited at that point to appear.

“Leonardo DiCaprio did say he’s a big fan of Squid Game, so maybe if time or chances allow, we can ask him to join the games,” the creator said.

Also, during the event, Hwang stated that season two of the show will begin shooting next year and will be released sometime in 2024 on Netflix.

On top of this, he stated that the second series will have a bigger budget and that the games that will be played within it by the characters have already been confirmed.

Squid Game’s first season told the story of a group of cash-strapped people who accept a strange invitation to compete in what’s revealed to be killer children’s games for a massive prize.

Having premiered last September with little buzz before its release, it went on to become Netflix’s most-watched series and recently picked up two Primetime Emmy Awards.
