The star and director of Glass are open to making more films in that cinematic universe

Even more films could be on the way.

As with every single M. Night Shyamalan film, consider this to be your spoiler alert warning because his latest feature, Glass, is now in cinemas and it has got plenty of people talking about a potential sequel/prequel.

Ok, let’s talk about the ending.

19 years since Unbreakable was released, the Eastrail 177 Trilogy has now concluded with Glass and while we were all expecting a definitive finale, we got – in Mr. Glass’ own words – an origin story.

Elijah Price may have been successful in unleashing ‘The Beast’ from his cell, but his plan was undone by Joseph Dunn’s discovery. As we learned in the finale, the train accident that Elijah planned and executed in Unbreakable also killed Kevin Wendell Crumb’s (James McAvoy) father.

After Kevin lost his dad, his mother began to abuse him and as a means of coping, he developed the 24 personalities (The Horde/The Collective) that we all saw in Split and Glass.

After Kevin discovered this truth, Mr. Glass’s bones instantly shattered.

Elsewhere, during that showdown in the parking lot, David Dunn (Bruce Willis) succumbed to his weakness of water when he was drowned in a puddle by those  henchmen for the mysterious organisation.

As mentioned previously, Mr. Glass was killed by The Beast and after Casey Cooke (Anya Taylor-Joy) pacified and calmed Kevin’s most ferocious alter ego, the SWAT team took their shot and killed him too.

As the end credits approached, we were led to believe that Dr. Ellie Staple (Sarah Paulson) and her shadow organisation had tied up all the loose ends.

This sinister group were hoping that the world would remain blissfully unaware of a simple truth, superheroes were living among them.

However, there’s always a twist and we learned that Elijah live streamed the whole fight between The Beast, The Overseer, and Mr Glass to a secret website.

iIn the final scene, we see Joseph, Casey, and Elijah’s mother uploading this footage to the web and it instantly goes viral.

The secret is out. Superheroes are real.

When JOE got a chance to interview Sarah Paulson (Dr. Ellie Staple), we asked her if she fancied making even more films in this shared universe.

After all, her character is still alive and there are loads of questions about the shadow organisation that she works for. With more and more people believing that they’re superheroes, surely her ‘skills’ could be needed again to remove these perceived threats?

Here’s what the star of Ocean’s 8 had to say about returning to play the character in a sequel/prequel to Glass.

“Oh my goodness yes because that means I’d get to work with Night again. I’ve been very lucky to have worked with such wonderful directors, but once every while you work with a person that you have a particular sensibility that’s the same as yours. I really trusted him and it was a wonderful working experience,” said Paulson.

M. Night Shyamalan has been pretty vocal about the idea that he won’t be returning to this universe again but he’s keeping an open mind.

“You never say no but, I don’t know. I don’t know. If I can think of a story that I love that I have to tell, then we’ll pursue it but there’s other stories to tell. I get why people want sequels, they feel comfort in them, especially in a time like this in the world where our leaders are failing us. We want comfort and to be reminded of better times. But, I want to strengthen the muscles of new relationships and try new things and new formats. Unbreakable itself was that, I was trying to do something very different and wasn’t accepted at the time,” said the director.
