A star-studded true crime drama and 6 more big trailers you might have missed this week

Welcome back to JOE's trailer column, your weekly round-up of the biggest teasers in the world of film and TV. And a big week it was for teasers, particularly those relating to television shows and documentaries. We've compiled the most notable ones here for your perusal.

Black Crab

Clip via Netflix Arguably the biggest film trailer to drop this week was for Black Crab, a post-apocalyptic action-thriller from Netflix starring Noomi Rapace (Prometheus, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo). Set during a long, harsh winter in a world torn apart by war, the Swedish film centres on six soldiers who embark on a covert mission across a frozen archipelago, risking their lives to transport a mysterious package that could end the conflict. It scuttles onto the streamer on 18 March.

Under the Banner of Heaven

Clip via FX Networks Moving onto TV, the trailer JOE is the most excited about this week is for Under the Banner of Heaven, a true crime drama based on the non-fiction book of the same name by Jon Krakauer. It will tell the story of a Mormon police detective (man of the moment Andrew Garfield) whose faith is shaken when investigating the murder of a woman that seems to involve the Church. The star-studded supporting cast for the series includes Normal People's Daisy Edgar-Jones and Irish actress Denise Gough, as well Sam Worthington and Wyatt Russell, with the show to be directed by acclaimed filmmakers David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water) and Isabel Sandoval (Lingua Franca). No precise release date has been set yet but the series will premiere this spring in the US, so we can expect it in Ireland around or after then.

Ozark: Season 4 Part 2

Clip via Netflix Just over a month after Netflix dropped the first part of the final season of crime drama Ozark, the streamer has unveiled a teaser and a release date for the final batch of episodes. The teaser focuses on fan favourite character Ruth Langmore (Julia Garner, Inventing Anna), who - slight spoilers - will no doubt be plotting revenge after the shocking events of the mid-season finale. Ozark will bow out after nearly five years on Netflix on 29 April.

The Man Who Fell to Earth

Clip via Showtime After previously being made into an excellent David Bowie-starring sci-fi flick (if you haven't seen it, seek it out), Walter Tevis' novel The Man Who Fell to Earth will be adapted once again for the screen - this time as a TV show. In it, Chiwetel Ejiofor (12 Years a Slave) will play the titular character, an alien who arrives on Earth at a turning point in human evolution and must confront his own past to determine humanity's future. Co-starring Bill Nighy and Naomie Harris, the show will premiere in the US on 24 April so you can expect an Irish release date sometime after.

The Andy Warhol Diaries

Clip via Netflix Moving onto documentaries, this series promises to be a "breathtakingly expansive" portrait of iconic American artist Andy Warhol from the "intimate vantage point offered by the artist’s own posthumously published diaries". The synopsis from Netflix reads: "The series traces Warhol’s almost unbelievably diverse journey fluidly moving between mediums and through eras as an artist. "While he was a larger-than-life figure, Warhol was intensely private regarding his personal life. "This series truly reveals much about the very complex man through his own words - often in his own voice through the use of cutting-edge AI techniques - and those who worked, created, and played alongside him from the subversive to the mainstream." Executive produced by Ryan Murphy and consisting of six episodes, The Andy Warhol Diaries drops on Netflix on 9 March.

Phoenix Rising/Gaming Wall Street

Clips via HBO and HBO Max Last but not least, HBO unveiled trailers for two of its upcoming documentary projects. Dropping first in the US on 3 March - although an Irish release date has not been set - is Gaming Wall Street, which is a two-part programme all about one of the most talked about news stories of last year - the historic short squeeze of GameStop. Arriving later is Phoenix Rising, another two-part documentary which will see actress Evan Rachel Wood speak out about the alleged abuse she suffered during her relationship with singer-songwriter Marilyn Manson. Again, an Irish release date has not been set, but the show will premiere in the US on 15 March.
