"We get to torture him forever" - Newly crowned World's Sexiest Man appears in new horror movie
"Anytime he sits in a chair, it could be the sexiest chair alive."
We're used to seeing very attractive Hollywood actors on the big screen, but not many movies can boast that they officially have the World's Sexiest Man on their books.
But that's just the type of bragging rights upcoming horror film Thanksgiving has going for it.
The movie comes as the third feature length film to be adapted from one of the mock trailers in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino's Grindhouse (2007) after Rodriguez's Machete (2010) and Jason Eisener's Hobo with a Shotgun (2011).
The flick, helmed by horror stalwart Eli Roth, stars Patrick Dempsey, officially voted World's Sexiest Man for 2023 last week, as the local sheriff of a Massachusetts town that is terrorised by a mysterious Thanksgiving-inspired killer.
Eli Roth praises Patrick Dempsey in upcoming horror
Speaking to JOE, Roth told us what an absolute pleasure it was having Dempsey star in Thanksgiving.
"I gotta tell you, between Patrick Dempsey and Rick Hoffman, there's a lot of sexiness on set.
"You know, Patrick is the best. I was so happy that he wanted to be in the movie. He's so well known for his romantic comedies and he's really at such an interesting point in his career - he can kind of go in any direction, in the way Paul Newman could.
"Patrick is a superb actor and he's from small town New England. He's from Maine. So the accent he's using is actually his natural accent, that he's never used in a film before."
"The great thing about him being sexiest man alive is we get to torture him forever. Anytime he sits in a chair, it could be the sexiest chair alive, you know? Sexiest plate alive, sexiest trailer alive.
"We'll just add sexiest to absolutely everything with Patrick. That is until Rick Hoffman or myself take his title!"
Dempsey is best known for playing Derek 'McDreamy' Shepard in the medical drama series Grey's Anatomy between 2005 to 2021.
The 57-year-old also starred in the Oscar-nominated Disney movie Enchanted and its sequel Disenchanted and has had roles in the films Bridget Jones's Baby, Freedom Writers, Outbreak, Scream 3 and Sweet Home Alabama.
Thanksgiving debuts with 90% score on Rotten Tomatoes
While some of Roth's films have previously garnered a mixed reaction, it looks like Thanksgiving is going to be a feast for the eyes, debuting on Rotten Tomatoes with a very healthy 90% score.
Rotten Tomatoes’ consensus says of the film: “[It] combines belly-busting humor with delightfully over-the-top gore, Thanksgiving is a feast for grindhouse fans.”
Owen Gleiberman wrote for Variety: “Thanksgiving follows the rules of the slasher genre, but it’s got a more charged and entertainingly hyperbolic atmosphere than these movies used to have.”
