The Goonies cast believe that a sequel will happen

The Goonies sequel

Hey you guys!

To be perfectly honest, this writer can pinpoint the exact moment when I fell in love with The Goonies.

After Chunk drops the marble statue, Mikey is absolutely horrified that the miniature penis on the sculpture has broken off.

Cue this scene:

Mikey: That’s my mom’s most favourite piece!

Chunk: What?

Mikey: Ohh! [picks up the penis]

Chunk: [laughs] Oh, my God!

Mouth: You wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t.

Genius.

Despite the fact that Richard Donner’s film was released in 1985, talk of a sequel never dies down. After all, Goonies never say die, so why would the ida of a sequel?

The film is a bonafide classic and during a recent mini-reunion at FAN EXPO, Canada, Sean Astin (Mikey) said that a sequel will happen someday.

Astin was accompanied by his fellow Goonies, Ke Huy Quan (Data) and Corey Feldman (Mouth).

When asked about a sequel, Quan jokingly said “that is the most asked question I’ve heard for the last 30 years.”

At this stage, Astin answered the question via song, singing the first line of “The Way You Look Tonight,” as reported by Comicbook.com.

“The someday part, someday it’ll happen. The audience wants it, they’re gonna do it, it’s annoying it’s taking so long, I’m sorry on behalf of Steven Spielberg,”Astin added.

When the conversation got more serious, Quan said “someday. Someday it’ll happen.”

Truth be told, we understand the nostalgic appeal of a sequel but we’re going to embrace our inner Fratellis and dampen the mood by saying we’re not 100% in favour of it.

In fact, during a previous interview with Collider, Astin was apprehensive and skeptical about the idea of a sequel.

“For 20 years, my answer to the question was an unequivocal yes, there will be a sequel — it’s not a question of if, it’s a question of when. Just certainty. Well…that’s gone. Now I think we’ve probably passed the threshold for which all of us original cast members are right for doing a sequel,” he said.

If The Goonies are set to return, surely the gang would have to be supporting players to some younger characters?

Aside from this, we’re fairly certain that you can’t get away with the extremely dark comedy that made the original such a cult classic.

After all, a young child getting kidnapped and placed next to a dead body will always be funny.

We just don’t see that getting off the ground in the current climate.

However, we’re always up for seeing how Chunk and Sloth’s friendship played out.

We’re never going to say no to another Truffle Shuffle.
