The political thriller has been described as ‘Hitchcockian’.
Netflix has just added The Madness, a new political thriller series starring Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo (Rustin).
In the show, the actor plays media pundit Muncie Daniels, who must fight for his innocence and his life after he stumbles upon the murder of a white supremacist deep in the woods of the Poconos mountains in Pennsylvania.
“As the walls close in, Muncie strives to reconnect with his estranged family — and his lost ideals — in order to survive,” the plot synopsis reads.
Also featuring amongst its cast Alison Wright (The Americans), Bradley Whitford (The West Wing), John Ortiz (American Fiction) and Stephen McKinley Henderson (Dune), The Madness is earning some very positive reviews from critics – with Brian Tallerico at RogerEbert.com calling it “phenomenally entertaining”.
In particular, the series is being praised for its central performance by Domingo, its timely story and its thriller plot which has been described by several critics as “Hitchcockian”.
Speaking to CinemaBlend about the show, Domingo confirmed it was inspired by the classic paranoid thrillers Alfred Hitchcock’s North by Northwest and Sydney Pollack’s Three Days of the Condor.
