Christopher Nolan's latest blockbuster, The Odyssey, lands in cinemas this month, and the first reactions from people who've seen it at preview screenings have hit the web.
An adaptation of the epic Greek poem by Homer, the film follows Odysseus (Matt Damon), the legendary King of Ithaca, as he embarks on a long and perilous journey home in the aftermath of the Trojan War.
"Throughout his voyage, he is forced to confront the whims of gods, mythological monsters, and trials that stretch both his cunning and his humanity to the breaking point," the plot synopsis adds.
Writer-director Nolan's immediate follow-up to his Oscar Best Picture-winning Oppenheimer, he's assembled an all-star cast for his latest.
This includes Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Lupita Nyong'o, Robert Pattinson, Samantha Morton, Tom Holland, and Zendaya.
Hitting theatres on Friday, 17 July, the early reactions to The Odyssey are mostly raves.
As can be expected for Nolan's work - who also made The Dark Knight Trilogy, Inception, Interstellar, and Tenet - people have singled out the craft and scale of the project for praise.
Viewers, however, have also posted reactions lauding Nolan's depiction of the supernatural elements from the source material, as well as the way he makes the Ancient Greek epic feel modern and timely.
Also, the performances of Matt Damon, Robert Pattinson, and Samantha Morton seem to be earning the most plaudits out of the cast.

It's worth noting that not all of the early reactions are raves. That said, even those who have issues with the movie seem to suggest that it is worth seeing.
