A classic mind-bending mystery thriller is among the movies on TV tonight

The greatest sequel ever is also on TV this evening.

Netflix has just added a brilliant drama based on a true story but if you’re looking for something else to watch, here are the movies airing on the telly tonight.

The Godfather Part II – Film4 – 9pm

Not just the best sequel ever made, but one of the best movies.

In the Line of Fire – ITV4 – 9pm

A Secret Service agent (Clint Eastwood) haunted by being unable to save John F. Kennedy tries to stop a disillusioned former CIA agent (an Oscar-nominated John Malkovich) from assassinating the current US president in this excellent ’90s thriller.

Jiu Jitsu / Mom and Dad – Legend – 9pm / 11pm

It’s a late period Nicolas Cage double bill over on Legend tonight.

Sunshine Cleaning – AMC UK – 9pm

Amy Adams and Emily Blunt star in this well-liked comedy-drama as two sisters who start a crime scene cleanup business.

The Deer Hunter – BBC Four – 9.30pm

After The Godfather Part II, Robert De Niro features on this list again – leading the cast of this hard-hitting drama about three friends in the US whose lives are upended by fighting in the Vietnam War.

The Prestige – Quest – 10pm

Our pick for tonight is this 2006 psychological thriller focusing on two magicians (Christian Bale and Hugh Jackman) in 19th-century London who become bitter enemies following a tragic accident.

However, when one of them crafts a seemingly perfect teleportation trick, the other becomes obsessed with how his competitor pulled it off.

Co-written and directed by Christopher Nolan (currently in news thanks of Oppenheimer), The Prestige ranks among the best of his movies thanks to its all-star cast, great setting and totally unpredictable plot.

In regards to the former, the film’s cast also includes Andy Serkis, David Bowie, Michael Caine, Rebecca Hall, Ricky Jay and Scarlett Johansson.

As well as airing on TV tonight, The Prestige is available to rent on Apple TV, Google Play and the Sky Store.

21 Bridges – BBC Three – 10pm

The late Chadwick Boseman stars in this very solid action thriller as an NYPD detective who shuts down Manhattan to find two suspected cop killers.

Angel Has Fallen – RTÉ2 – 10pm

The third entry in the Gerard Butler Has Fallen action franchise.

Kill Your Friends – AMC UK – 10.50pm

Nicholas Hoult stars in this satirical thriller and novel adaptation as an A&R man working at the height of the Britpop music craze who goes to extremes in order to find his next hit.

Crank – ITV4 – 11.35pm

In this pleasingly over-the-top action flick, Jason Statham plays a hitman poisoned by the mafia who must keep his adrenaline flowing constantly in order stay alive.
