Eleven years after the original film, the sequel to ‘Mike Bassett England Manager’ is very much on it’s way.

With Ricky Tomlinson playing the lead role, the ‘mockumentary’ styled film was a big success amongst football fans and now, eleven years later, there is a sequel being made and it’s called ‘Mike Bassett Interim Manager’.

The original film followed the fortunes of Mike Bassett who was controversially appointed the new England manager having been boss of unfashionable Norwich City in the second tier of English football. It followed his tenure as manager of England during a World Cup in Brazil and it was a laugh-out-loud riot.

The sequel is not being funded by a studio and instead is being funded by a Kickstarter fundraising campaign to raise the necessary £250,000. Fans will be offered a speaking part if they make a donation of £5,000 or more. Tomlinson is said to be keen on getting some big names cameos to feature in the movie with talk of Steven Gerrard, Wayne Rooney and Jamie Carragher being tipped to appear.

The new storyline sees Mike Bassett appointed as assistant manager to a German legend who has just been made the manager of the England team. Filming begins next year and we cannot wait to see how this one fares out.

You can get involved in their Kickstarter campaign here. Do it, you know you want to…
