A new look for the Curley family. Fans of the film will want to see this.

It’s testament to the brilliant writing in The Snapper that 25 years since being released, the film is still being watched, adored and quoted on a regular basis by the Irish public.

Lines like; ‘7 pounds 12 ounces. Is that a baby, or a turkey?,’ I suppose a ride is out of the question?, and ‘Hey Burgess! Burgess! Snip, snip!’ have become a part of popular culture and as reported previously, Roddy Doyle’s beloved novel is now being adapted into a play at the Gate Theatre, Dublin.

Of course, the book was famously brought to the world’s attention in Stephen Frears’ Golden Globe-nominated film, but Irish audiences are going to get a close-up look at the trials and tribulations of Sharon Curley/Rabbitte and her whole family.

Anyway, here’s a look at the characters that were famously portrayed by Colm Meaney and Ruth McCabe. In the play, the very talented duo of Simon Delaney and Hilda Fay will be playing Ireland’s most iconic grandparents.

It’s not The Snapper without the main character and here’s a look at Sharon Curley/Rabbitte and the rest of her family.
