Drawing comparisons to The Italian Job and Ocean’s Eleven, the film features one of Ireland’s best actors.
Netflix has just added The Vault, a 2021 action thriller movie featuring a great ensemble cast.
Directed by acclaimed Spanish genre filmmaker Jaume Balagueró (the Rec films, Sleep Tight), The Vault revolves around a young engineer named Thom (Freddie Highmore, The Good Doctor) who is recruited by Walter (Liam Cunningham, Hunger), the owner of a salvaging company, to take part in a heist.
The goal: to steal a legendary lost treasure recovered by Walter but then seized by the Spanish government.
With the treasure being kept in a mysterious, impenetrable fortress hidden under The Bank of Spain, Walter and his team – consisting of members of all different skillsets – decide the best time to pull off the job will be when the whole country is distracted by Spain’s World Cup Final.
Alongside Cunningham and Highmore, the cast of the heist flick also includes Àstrid Bergès-Frisbey (Guy Ritchie’s King Arthur), Famke Janssen (X-Men), Luis Tosar (Cell 211) and Sam Riley (Free Fire).
Drawing comparisons to The Italian Job and Ocean’s Eleven, The Vault received mixed to decent reviews from critics for the most part.
The general consensus was that while the movie tells a familiar story, its direction and cast make it a fun watch.
