Prime Video has just added The Wrecking Crew, the new "Lethal Weapon-style" action comedy movie starring Dave Bautista (Knock at the Cabin) and Jason Momoa (Aquaman).
The film sees the stars play estranged half-brothers who are forced to reunite on the streets of Hawaii after their father’s mysterious death.
"As they set out to uncover the truth, buried secrets resurface and loyalties are tested, unveiling a conspiracy that could tear their family apart," the plot synopsis reads.
The movie was spurred into existence back in 2021 by Bautista, who tweeted at the time: "Just going to throw this out into the atmosphere and see what happens.
"Here we go… Me and Momoa in a Lethal Weapon-type buddy cop movie... Ok! There it is. Now we wait."
A few days later, Momoa confirmed his interest in the project and then in 2023, it was reported that the action comedy was moving forward.
Last year, JOE spoke to Jacob Batalon. This was ahead of the release of another action film featuring him, Novocaine.
At the time, we asked him about The Wrecking Crew, to which he replied:
"It's a lot of crazy, ridiculous action scenes for sure. It's basically just about Hawaii and [Bautista and Momoa are] basically trying to figure out who murdered their father.
"I help them through that stuff. Yeah, it's great."
Many critics have agreed with Batalon's sentiment about The Wrecking Crew, with the movie currently holding a 78% Rotten Tomatoes score.
You can read some of those glowing write-ups for the film below:
The Cosmic Circus: "It’s great that Soto knows how to keep the camera alive and exciting during high-energy, violent set pieces. This gives The Wrecking Crew an edge that few streaming films of the era sadly do."
The Hollywood Reporter: "Movies like this depend almost entirely on chemistry between the co-stars, and fortunately, Bautista and Momoa have plenty of it."
JoBlo's Movie Network: "With an energy and sense of fun that has been missing from the action genre for quite some time, The Wrecking Crew lives up to its title with a non-stop blast of violent action that doesn’t let up from beginning to end."
MovieWeb: "The Wrecking Crew is a no-holds-barred action comedy that gleefully embraces savage extremes to entertaining effect. Dave Bautista and Jason Momoa are fantastic in a raunchy, bloody, and swift narrative that never takes its foot off the gas."
ScreenAnarchy: "I don't care whether Bautista and Momoa are believable as brothers. I want to see them destroying bad guys, which is exactly what The Wrecking Crew delivers."
