There’s some very good news if you’re a fan of True Detective and you want a 3rd series

The show’s creator is writing new episodes.

A few months back, we brought you the news that Matthew McConaughey wants to film a third series of True Detective and now it appears that the series is due to make a comeback.

While it’s too early to say at this point whether the Oscar winner will be reprising his role as Rust Cohle, Entertainment Weekly have reported that Nic Pizzolatto – the show’s creator – has already written the first two episodes of the third run.

Not only that, but Pizzolatto is teaming up with writer and producer David Milch – of Deadwood and N.Y.P.D Blue fame – for season three.

While a third series has not yet been greenlit and new episodes are still uncertain, fans of the show will hope that True Detective returns to the heights of its first series which starred McConaughey and Woody Harrelson in 2014.

A second series in 2015 – starring Colin Farrell, Vince Vaughn and Rachel McAdams – fared less well with critics but still performed admirably in terms of ratings.

In July 2016, HBO head of programming Casey Bloys said: “Both Nic and HBO are open to another season. I don’t think Nic has a take and he’s working on some other projects. We’re open to somebody else writing it and Nic supervising it. It’s a valuable franchise, it’s not dead, we just don’t have a take for a third season yet.”

Now, however, it appears that that third season is far closer to becoming a reality.
