Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi talks superheroes and Star Wars

There’s also news on the What We Do in the Shadows spin-off.

When Marvel announced that Taika Waititi would be directing Thor: Ragnarok, film fans knew that they were in for one hell of a ride on Thor’s third standalone adventure.

Well, with a rating of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, it’s clear that the decision to hire the New Zealander paid off because Thor: Ragnarok might just be the best film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

After grabbing the world’s attention with his Oscar-nominated short film Two Cars, One Night, Waititi has since gone on to create some of the most original and hilarious comedies of the last decade.

Aside from working on the beloved Flight of the Conchords with his close friends Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie and Rhys Darby, Waititi also directed and starred in the fangtastic cult-classic, What We Do In The Shadows.

Prior to this, his other features like Eagle vs Shark and Boy demonstrated that the gifted filmmaker was also capable of balancing drama with laughs. These two genres expertly came together in one of the most beloved films of recent years, Hunt for the Wilderpeople.

We ranked Wilderpeople as our favourite film of 2016 and if you haven’t seen it yet then do yourself a favour and seek it out. It’s majestical!

With the release of Thor: Ragnarok in Irish cinemas, our own Paul Moore managed to catch up with the talented Kiwi to talk all things superhero.

We also got an update on the spin-off to What We Do in the Shadows – the wonderfully titled ‘We’re Wolves – and asked Taika if he fancied making a film in that galaxy that’s far, far away.

Oh yeah, given the fact that Waititi also appears in Ragnarok as the hilarious and scene-stealing Korg, we wanted to know where the voice for that character came from.

Take a look.

Thor: Ragnarok is in Irish cinemas right now, and in case you haven’t seen it yet, you can check out our (completely spoiler free) opinion-piece on it right here.
