Some juicy tidbits in here...

Love/Hate quiz

In case you didn’t know, he’s just starring in one of the biggest films EVER made. No biggie.

You might recall, back in July, someone got some on-set pics of Avengers: Infinity War, and we spotted what looked like Irish actor Tom Vaughan-Lawlor looking VERY mad at Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange.

At the time nobody had any idea that he was in the movie, but since then it has been added to his IMDb page, and while it hasn’t been confirmed, eagle eyed viewers spotted the word “MAW” on Tom’s motion-capture suit, which has led everyone to believe that he is playing Ebony Maw, one of big bad guy Thanos’ head henchmen.

On Friday night, Tom was on The Late Late Show, and while Ryan Tubridy did attempt to get some info out of him on the major blockbuster, Tom remained quite tight-lipped about it all:

In the lead-up to his new real-life prison movie Maze, we here in JOE were lucky enough to sit down with Tom and his co-star Barry Ward about the film (the full interview will be up on site soon enough), but of course we had to ask him to give us any information he could about his part in the Avengers movie:

“Avengers is coming out next year, and I’ve been filming it since March, on and off…”

And before we could ask any questions ourselves, Barry jumped in with one of his own: “Is it one movie? Or is it two or three? Or can you even say?”

Tom responds: “Two.”

Now, if you look at Tom’s IMDb, or indeed any of his Avengers co-star’s IMDb pages, there is no official word on any of them being in the untitled Infinity Wars sequel (probably because Marvel don’t want to give away who lives and who dies in it):

So this would seem to indicate that the sequel will also feature Tom, but will it also feature Robert Downey Jr., Josh Brolin, Mark Ruffalo, Tom Hiddleston, Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Jeremy Renner, Chris Pratt, Elizabeth Olsen, Sebastian Stan, Benedict Cumberbatch, Paul Bettany, Cobie Smulders, Benedict Wong, Zoe Saldana, Karen Gillan, Vin Diesel, Dave Bautista, Bradley Cooper, Pom Klementieff, Scarlett Johansson, Benicio del Toro, Tom Holland, Anthony Mackie, Chadwick Boseman, Danai Gurira, Paul Rudd, and Don Cheadle?

Who knows? Tom goes on:

“They’re shooting them back-to-back. [The Russo Brothers, the directors of the movies] are amazing! But also what is amazing is seeing them on this big budget film, and being in scenes and just talking about what’s the objective, and what’s the drama of the scene? These huge effects and everything but still going ‘That’s all great, but let’s talk about the truth of this scene’, and so it would be this huge optic, but actually talking about it on a very intimate and dramatic level.”

Was it a fun set to work on?

“It was a very fun set. Lots of laughs. But not as much fun as Maze.”

So before we head off with Tom into outer space with super-heroes, make sure you check out his new movie when it is release in cinemas on Friday 22 September, and check back in with JOE soon for our full interview.
