A new Tommy Tiernan special and Adam King’s animated show among highlights of RTÉ’s Christmas schedule

December has finally arrived, and with it comes all the lovely television to watch as you dose off into a Christmas dinner induced coma.

If you’re wondering what’s going to be on as you and your family take a well deserved break following the hustle and bustle of the year, you’re in luck.

RTÉ have released their festive schedule for 2021, with highlights across the month of December all the way up to the new year.

Tommy Tiernan is back on our screens with a new special, set to be full of surprises for not only viewers, but also himself.

There’ll be not one, but two Mrs Brown’s Boys specials on Christmas Day and New Year’s Eve, which will see Agnes getting recruited into her church choir, and a Christmas tree shortage strikes Dublin.

Doireann Garrihy and Dermot Whelan are teaming up for Big Night In, an hour special of pranks, games, and plenty of surprises for the audience.

This year’s edition of Ireland’s Fittest Family will reach its thrilling conclusion in December, with a celebrity Christmas special coming with Neil Delamere, Sinead Quinlan, Grainne Gallanagh and the Happy Pear twins.

Over on RTÉjr, Adam King of the Late Late Toy Show fame will star in his own animated special, Adam Saves Christmas. Keep an eye out for a certain Late Late Show host as Santa this Christmas Eve…

The 2 Johnnies will be ringing in the New Year on RTÉ’s New Years Countdown Show, with loads of special guests including a special performance from Picture This.

Benedict Cumberbatch’s take on the Grinch will be the big movie on Christmas Day in a modern interpretation on the classic Dr Seuss story from the makers of Despicable Me.

Other movie highlights across December include Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, The Greatest Showman, Die Hard, Braveheart, the Back to the Future trilogy, E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial, the Indiana Jones series, Home Alone 2: Lost in New York, Casablanca, Singin in the Rain, The Big Sleep, and Chitty, Chitty, Bang, Bang.

Plenty of options for yourself and the family to keep you occupied over the most wonderful time of the year.
