The trailer for Netflix’s groundbreaking football documentary series is here

Paul Moore

A must-watch for football fans.

In recent years, we’ve seen a wave of remarkable football documentaries. For example, Les Blues gave us an inside look at the French national team as moments of genius were usually followed by self-inflicted wounds and divisions. Elsewhere, Trainer provided a captivating look at what’s required to make the grade as a football manager in the German leagues.

Aside from these, if you haven’t seen The Two Escobar’s then you need to change that. ESPN’s remarkable documentary charts the rise of Colombian soccer and how its increasing popularity is attributed to the influx of drug money into the sport by Pablo Escobar and the other drug cartels. It’s superb.

On this note, Netflix’s first foray into making an original documentary about a football team has us intrigued because they’re focusing on The Old Lady, Juventus.

Fans and supporters worldwide will have access to the club behind the scenes, with Netflix suggesting that the four hour-long episodes will be “groundbreaking” in terms of the access to and understanding of players, coaches and management on a deeply personal level.

The first trailer has just been released and we’ve got a glimpse at what the narrative will be about. In the documentary, viewers will get a look behind the scenes of Juventus FC as the filmmakers document the club during the 2017-2018, both on and off the field.

There are interviews with legends like Alessandro Del Piero and Gianluigi Buffon while other players like Giorgio Chiellini, Douglas Costa, Gonzalo Higuaín, Claudio Marchisio, Miralem Pjanic and Daniele Rugani feature.

Of course, those two recent defeats in the Champions League finals to Barcelona and Real Madrid are a main part of the story. Here’s what’s in store when the documentary is released on February 16th.
