#TRAILERCHEST: The director of Zero Dark Thirty and The Hurt Locker takes on the Detroit riots

Rory Cashin

“It’s time we knew.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Detroit.

Plot’s it all about?

Director Kathryn Bigelow isn’t one to shy away from controversial topics. While she started off her career with the likes of Point Break (the great original, not the awful remake) and underrated vampire classic Near Dark, the two-time Oscar-winner has recently become the go-to director to dissect big political issues on the big screen, such as with The Hurt Locker and Zero Dark Thirty.

With Detroit, she brings things closer to home, looking at the events that spurned on the 1967 riots that resulted in 43 people dead, over 1,000 injured, over 7,000 arrests and more than 2,000 buildings completely destroyed.

Helping her bring the story to the screen are The Force Awakens’ Boyega, Captain America’s best buddy Anthony Mackie, The U.S. Office’s Krasinski, The Revenant’s Poulter and our very own Jack Reynor.

Bigelow’s last two movies were both major Oscar-magnets, and it has been five long years since Zero Dark Thirty. We expect Detroit to surpass even those in terms of potential Academy wins.

Starring: John Boyega, Anthony Mackie, Jack Reynor, Will Poulter, John Krasinski.

Directed by: Kathryn Bigelow

Irish release date: TBD, but the US release is 4 August 2017

Enjoy!
