#TRAILERCHEST: The first trailer for Netflix’s Mute presents a bold, strange vision of the future

Legitimately counting the days for this one…

Welcome to #TRAILERCHEST, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for Mute.

Having endured a torrid time from the critics on the really-not-that-bad-actually Warcraft in 2016, Duncan Jones could use a hit.

The writer/director’s new project Mute has been in the works for some time, and we finally have our first proper look at the Netflix exclusive.

First impressions? The intrigue of Moon meets the neon-soaked future dystopia of Blade Runner meets… Paul Rudd rocking Anchorman-level facial hair and Justin Theroux looking like Owen Wilson on a very bad day.

Sam Rockwell is heavily rumoured to make a return, one that may tie the worlds of Moon and Mute together.

Clint Mansell (Requiem For A Dream, The Fountain)  is definitely on board, handling soundtrack duties, so that’s an added bonus.

Plot’s it all about? The official synopsis looks like this:

Berlin, the future, but close enough to feel familiar: In this loud, often brutal city, Leo (Alexander Skarsgård) – unable to speak from a childhood accident – searches for his missing girlfriend, the love of his life, his salvation, through dark streets, frenzied plazas, and the full spectrum of the cities shadow-dwellers.

As he seeks answers, Leo finds himself mixed up with Cactus Bill (Paul Rudd) and Duck (Justin Theroux), a pair of irreverent US army surgeons on a mission all their own. This soulful sci-fi journey from filmmaker Duncan Jones imagines a world of strange currencies in which echoes of love and humanity are still worth listening to.

Starring: Alexander Skarsgård, Paul Rudd, Justin Theroux, Seyneb Saleh, Robert Sheehan

Directed by: Duncan Jones

Irish release date: Mute hits Netflix on 23 February

Enjoy.
