#TRAILERCHEST : The Hunt could be the next big horror franchise and you can see why

Paul Moore

The Hunt

The Purge meets The Hunger Games…with more violence.

Throughout the history of Always Sunny, fans have been convinced that Dennis Reynolds (Glenn Howerton) is an actual psychopath.  After all, the Golden God has talked about cutting people up and wearing the skin of another man.

To be honest, we have our suspicions and while we wait for that diagnosis to be confirmed in the new season, fans of Howerton will get a kick out of seeing the actor playing a twisted character in The Hunt.

Having seen the first trailer, we’re getting a strong vibe of The Purge meets The Hunger Games with this one and there’s some serious pedigree with this production.

Horror maestros Blumhouse are responsible for this one – they’re experts at creating box-office hits and franchises like The Purge, Insidious, Paranormal Activity, Get Out – and Damon Lindelof, co-creator of the TV series The Leftovers and Lost, is writing the script.

Plot’s it all about?: Twelve strangers wake up in a clearing. They don’t know where they are, or how they got there. They don’t know they’ve been chosen… for a very specific purpose … The Hunt. In the shadow of a dark internet conspiracy theory, a bunch of elites gathers for the very first time at a remote Manor House to hunt humans for sport. But the elites’ master plan is about to be derailed because one of the hunted, Crystal, knows The Hunters’ game better than they do. She turns the tables on the killers, picking them off, one by one, as she makes her way toward the mysterious woman at the centre of it all.

Cast: Betty Gilpin, Emma Roberts, Hilary Swank, Ethan Suplee, Justin Hartley, Glenn Howerton, Ike Barinholtz, Amy Madigan, Wayne Duvall.

Director: Craig Zobel

Irish release date: September 27
