#TRAILERCHEST: Ireland-set zombie movie The Cured looks absolutely terrifying

Rory Cashin

“We need something that will make them listen. Something that will truly scare them.”

Welcome to #TrailerChest, where we’re taking a sneak peek at the brand new trailer for The Cured.

Plot’s it all about?

Irish writer and director David Freyne released a short zombie movie a few years ago called The First Wave, dealing with a group of infected people who were given a cure, and just how well that cure took hold.

If you’ve never seen it, you can check it out right here, and we highly recommend that you do:

Freyne used this as a calling card for bigger and better things, which is how The Cured came about.

Telling the story set a few years after a massive zombie outbreak, the population now contains many people who have been “cured” of the virus, but those who remained un-zombie-fied during the outbreak look down on these cured as second class citizens.

Zombie movies are great at holding up horrific allegorical mirrors to modern society, and obviously The Cured is overflowing with potential definition.

On top of that, the trailer looks absolutely terrifying, and the early reviews have spoke of a truly fantastic ending that needs to be seen to be believed.

Could this be the first great Irish horror movie? Watch this space… (apologies to those who loved Boy Eats Girl)

Starring: Ellen Page, Sam Keeley, Tom Vaughn-Lawlor

Directed by: David Freyne

Irish release date: There is no set Irish release date as of yet, but The Cured will get its Irish premiere at the Dublin Film Festival on Sunday 25 February (and it was one of our picks of the festival)

Enjoy!
