“If he dies…he dies.”
In terms of a simplistic take, film fans couldn’t be blamed for thinking that Creed II is solely based around revenge. After all, Ivan Drago did kill Apollo Creed in the ring and with their sons, Viktor and Adonis, set to do battle in Creed II, old wounds are set to be reopened.
This being said, Dolph Lundgren has said that his character is a very different beast to what we’ve seen before because Ivan Drago is emotionally damaged from the events that unfolded in Rocky IV.
In an interview with Empire, Lundgren said: “Basically, my character has been in a living hell since ’85 and lost everything. The script reintroduces him as a pretty damaged character, emotionally, and somebody who’s suffered a lot physically from a hard life. I can identify with that quite easily. The physical part and the emotional part.”
However, we don’t see these old grudges being settled over a nice cup of tea and some biscuits.
Oh yes, it’s time to lace up the gloves because Creed II is going to bring the pain and if this latest footage is anything to go by, the action isn’t going to be confined to the ring.
Balboa. Drago. Reunited.
All that’s missing is the Russian to say “I must break you.”
Creed II is released in cinemas on 30 November.
